Review of the Centurio slot from Edict: ancient atmosphere and reliable mathematics

Introduction

Centurio is a video slot from the developer Edict (a brand of the German company Merkur Gaming), dedicated to the era of Ancient Rome. The game was released in 2023 and quickly gained popularity thanks to its classic structure and high RTP.

Key features of Centurio

1. Theme: Ancient Rome.
2. High RTP - 96.08%.
3. Very high volatility.
4. Minimalistic yet memorable bonus system.
5. Presence of two Gamble functions.
6. Full adaptation for mobile devices.

Design and atmosphere

Centurio is executed in the traditional style for Merkur/Edict: restrained, yet quality 2D graphics with an accent on symbols of the Roman era - helmets, swords, coins. The font is decorated in the form of a marble colonnade, while the soundtrack is laconic - triumphant fanfares during wins and moderately epic music in the background. The game is not overloaded with animations, making it fast and stable even on weak devices.

Characteristics and symbols

Centurio parameters table

Payouts for combinations (5 symbols on a line)

1. Centurion helmet – up to 1000× the bet.
2. Roman coin – up to 200×.
3. Swords and shields – up to 100×.
4. Card symbols (10–A) – up to 20×.
5. Coins – up to 40× (in some sources it is mentioned as a premium symbol of medium level).

Exact coefficients may vary depending on the currency and casino, but the payout structure is standard for Merkur slots.

Bonus functions and unique mechanics

• Wild-symbol: replaces regular symbols for forming winning combinations. In Centurio, the Wild function can display the game logo or the helmet symbol (depending on the version).
• Scatter: is absent in the classical sense. There is no trigger on the freespins.
• Gamble function (Risk-game): available after any win. Two options are offered:
  • Classic card guess (red/black) — doubling the win.
  • Risk roulette — the chance to increase the win by 4–5 times with the corresponding risk.
• Absence of freespins: the game does not include free spins, which is characteristic for many Merkur slots.

Expert opinions and recommendations

Centurio — this is a slot for experienced players who value a pure mathematical model without unnecessary 'twists'. The slot is suitable for those who seek a reliable RTP and are ready for a long wait for a big win.

Strategic recommendations

• Due to very high volatility, it is recommended to start with minimal bets (€0.05–€0.2).
• Use the Gamble mode only on wins up to 5–10× your bet — this reduces the risk of total loss of the bankroll.
• Play in demo mode a minimum of 100 spins before switching to real money — this helps to assess the frequency of premium-symbols falling out.

Mathematical model

1. RTP: 96.08% — is at the level of the average indicator, which makes the game fair in the long-term perspective.
2. Volatility: very high — indicates rare, but potentially large wins.
3. Maximum multiplier: x1000 — a rare indicator by modern standards, but adequate for a slot with 5 lines.

Compared to analogs

1. Eye of Horus (Merkur) – RTP 96.31%, average volatility, presence of freespins.
2. Centurion Diamonds (Edict) – RTP 96.03%, 50 lines, more saturated bonus system.
3. Cash Fruits Plus (Edict) – RTP 96.00%, classic fruit-slot with low volatility.

Mobile version

Centurio is fully adapted for smartphones and tablets. The gaming field is automatically scaled, all control buttons are conveniently located even on screens with a diagonal of 5 inches. The version works without downloading — just a sufficient browser with HTML5 support.

Pros and cons

Pros

1. High RTP (96.08%).
2. Classic, time-tested gameplay.
3. Two Gamble functions to increase the win.
4. Excellent optimization for mobile devices.
5. Minimum bet from €0.05.

Cons

1. A total of 5 fixed lines — little by modern standards.
2. No free spins and complex bonus rounds.
3. Very high volatility can scare off beginners.
4. Maximum win is limited to x1000.

Locking

Centurio — this is a quality, but conservative slot from Edict, oriented towards players who prefer tested mechanics and fair mathematics. It will not break records for popularity, but it will be a reliable choice for sessions with a control bankroll.

Overall rating: 7.8/10
